Myths Near YOU!

Ghosts don’t just appear in far way places...The Country House is a restaurant and tavern in Clarendon Hills on 55th street. The Country house is known for their great food, drinks and tavern vibes. However, The Country House is most known for their “ghost” that lives in the attic of the Restaurant. I used the Clarendon Hills Historical Society Website because I know it is a trustworthy site because it is the site for the Clarendon Hills Town and they are telling the History of this town.
The Country House Restaurant in Clarendon Hills
In the late 1950s, the story of this ghost began. On this special evening, a woman visited The Country House, she was a regular visitor here. She brought her young daughter with her. She had just gotten in a argument with her spouse, and that greatly upset her. She asked the bartender if she could leave her daughter with him for a little bit for whatever reason. The bartender refused to watch the daughter because he had to finish his shift, and the women was so angry that she took her daughter with her and left the restaurant. While driving, the women crashed into a tree a short distance from the country house. This is still unknown if it was suicide or an accident.

20 years after the accident, in 1974, a strange legend was born on this day. Many of the unexplainable actions that were observed are still witnessed to this day. An employee of the restaurant was asked to stay after hours to clean up. He would start to hear noises like the jukebox turning itself on in the middle of the night. Once, he left the bathroom during the sound of the jukebox playing and when he entered the bar area he noticed a beautiful blonde woman in a red dress in front of the jukebox. He approached her to ask her to leave because he thought she was a customer there after hours, then he noticed there was nothing but air between the bottom of her dress and the floor.

The haunting doesn't just happen to employees, some visitors have experienced things as well. There has been times when people have heard the hostess calling their names to be seated, then the hostess denies ever calling their names. There have been heard footsteps in the dining room and upstairs even though no one is moving. In the Kitchen, pots and pans clash together. In some very rare occurrences people have reported to see a young, pretty, blonde women sitting next to the upstairs window of the restaurant as they drive by.

The story of The Country House ghost has been a long time childhood ghost story of mine. I used to live a block away from The Country House and I would go to the restaurant all the time. I think it's cool but scary at the same time that there are ghosts in our own town and not just far away places are haunted.

Not even able to take a slap shot

Did you know this year over 1000 players played in the NHL when compared to before, only 1/3 players actually knew how to shoot.

According to the author Eric Duhatschek, who wrote an article in the newspaper The Globe and Mail.

Today's hockey players fitter, faster than 20 years ago, is an article that talks about the hockey players of now compared to the ones of before. The article is reliable because The Globe and Mail is a newspapers that is very popular and they publish articles about very interesting projects.

With players a lot stronger than before in the days, Mr. Duhatschek states that it is a lot harder for players to make themselves standout on a daily bases because of the more consistent skills of the players. Compared to before, there was 1 very good player one year, a couple decent players and the rest did not have their place in the NHL. But, the NHL needed some players. Talking about strength since the all-star game was in stored, when the 1st all-star game took place, there was this one plyer who won the hardest shot award, the player scored only 3 goals in 41 games and shot a 99 mph slap shot..Now the record for the hardest shot is 110 mph. Which really shows at what point that there is a clear difference in strength, although, there are many variables, such as equipment and better off-ices training's, those factors will not help develop a shot by  nearly 10 mph. The game as became so quick that it is very hard for a player to show is skills.

The coaching has also changed a ton. The strategies are now made to give the better players a hard time to show what they can do. Coaches are paid to win, not entertain as stated in the article. They do this for a living, they win a lot of money for it if they are successful. The first goal is to win, and to win, you must eliminate the best players of the other team. The danger zones are taken away, therefore goalies do not get as many hard shots. Which ponders why the scoring of the games nowadays are a lot lower.

I hope that throughout these blog post you got to learn a lot more about the evolution of hockey over the years.

A better Chicago

Burning down
NEW MAYOR:
The city after the fire was becoming bigger and bigger as time went on. After the rebuilding, the new mayor, Joseph Medill, had pledged to make the city better in every way possible. He had the buildings taller and more of them, so the city could hold more people thus a bigger population. He also had more transportation than before, along the railroad tracks that had been there and not destroyed in the fire. By 1890, Chicago had been a major economic and transportation place with more than one million people, which was huge for The United States at the time with New York City was the only place in America to have more than Chicago did. This was good for the city because the new mayor seemed to know a lot about the city’s well being and also seemed like he wanted to make sure that the city was going to do better than before, more safe and also more interesting to attract people and tourists so the city would gain more money.
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE CITY:
As the city was growing, more and more people came and settled down there. In 1893, Chicago held the World’s Columbian Exposition (Worlds fair), which had attracted a crazy amount of people, 27.5 million people in the new and better city of Chicago. After the world’s fair had passed, more buildings were built the way of the new laws, and nothing has gone wrong. The world’s fair had brought new ideas for everyone to use, and Chicago had used some of them. They had used building structures, an idea was old times, like the Romans. This was good for the city because it had shown everyone that although they were a changing city, they also knew about the importance of having old style buildings and the mayor may have thought that that would bring new people to the city.

Moral Mammals

This documentary on the moral behaviors of animals was very interesting. Some animals show more care and consideration for others. For example, monkeys are more family orientated and always watch out for the young. Dolphins stay with others and rarely are alone. They sleep with one eye open to watch out for danger so they can protect their families. Some species prefer to be alone rather than be with family such as the sloth. Animals have morals and behaviors similar to humans. They care for others in times of need and can be independent creatures. We as people can learn a lot from animals because they put others before themselves. We need to learn how to do that more.

Come Play with Me!
"Think: (an evil Elf on the Shelf), leaving behind cryptic notes — and occasionally scratch marks." According to Glamour.com

In 1970, a mother purchased an antique raggedy Ann doll from a hobby store. The doll was a present for her daughter Donna on her birthday. Donna was in college at the time and living with a roommate named Angie. At first the doll didn’t have anything special, but over time she began to move on her own. Annabelle's movement would increase over time. The girls would leave Annabelle on Donna;s bed and come home to find her on the couch.
Annabelle in the movie "Annabelle" (Not the real doll)

Their friend Lou hated Annabelle. He thought that there was something deeply wrong with it. However, the girls did not agree with him.  Donna began to find pieces of parchment paper in the house with messages written on it. “Help us” and “Help Lou.” The weirdest part was that there was no parchment paper in the house. Where was Annabelle getting the paper from?

It got even worse. One night when Lou was sleeping he awoke to Annabelle on top of him trying to strangle him. Donna agreed to bring in a medium. The medium discovered that long before their apartment complex had been built there was a field on the property. A seven year old girl had been found dead on that field and her spirit remained in the doll. Then they held an exorcism for the doll and removed it from her home.
Real Annabelle in the "Occult Museum"

They built a special case for the doll in their Occult Museum. Visitors who taunted the doll were all involved in near-fatal or fatal accidents upon leaving the museum. Annabelle still stands in the case at the museum to this day.

Annabelle even appeared in the Conjuring in 2013. Annabelle’s story also turned into a movie, Annabelle, released in 2014. Its a similar story plot to the real story of Annabelle.

I believe the story of Annabelle is very creepy. I always thought of Dolls to be sweet toys, not haunted killers. The story of Annabelle changes my feelings towards Dolls and I am scared of them.
