The Fight Against Ebola

The geographic themes of interaction and movement prove that geography is destiny in Africa because of the lack of essential support and health care from the government and it receiving support from other countries.
www.military.com

Troops to Fight Ebola: The movement theme of geography shows that Africa can’t support itself and its people so the government has to receive help from other countries. According to the Africa News Service, the President of the United States said in an article that Obama wants to help support Africa by sending military personnel. Another article for the Toronto Star stated that Britain is also bringing troops over. These assets are suppose help put up treatment facilities and provide security for these facilities. In America, or more specifically the government of the United States do not need support from other countries like Canada. This is because the U.S. can support itself unlike Africa who needs extra help from other countries.

Vaccines Re-purposed: The interaction theme of geography shows geography is destiny by having the tests of having other vaccines being re-purposed to fight Ebola. Again these tests are from other countries other than Africa. This was stated form the New York Times as they write about new radical ways of fighting Ebola. In Africa there wouldn't be any ideas like this because their healthcare is next to none. These interactions with other countries have been trying to develop a treatment. Other poorer and third world countries were not able to help. Therefore, geography has a major effect on its people.

Ebola

Is your geography your destiny?

Geography is not destiny because the themes of movement and humans interacting with the environment show that in Western Africa People can be saved from Ebola.
Movement;
The movement theme of geography shows that where you live does not affect your destiny. I believe that at one time your geography and location definately affected your future, but that must have been a long time ago because since then movement has evolved rapidly. You can spread an idea globaly with just the push of a button. Not only can ideas be shared, but movement also means people and objects, as in the case for Ebola They are flying out doctors, specialist, and vaccines to Africa to help those who have had the misfortune to get infected. Not only are they flying people and things into Africa but they are also  flying people out of Africa as well. One idea that was shared in the Article was that more than 200 experts had a meeting to decide on what Eblola vaccines and treatments to used first. They decided to use the survivor’s blood to test upon. Another vaccine that is also likely to be used was developed at Canada’s National Microbiology laboratory in Winnipeg. The Canadian government has donated about 1,000 doses of the vaccine to help prevent Ebola from spreading.

Human interaction with the environment;
The Human’s interacting with the environment theme of geography also proves that your destiny does not depend on where you live. Obama has asked congress, “Let’s give some public health aid to countries like Liberia, so that they can set up hospitals and nurses and vaccinations.” I think that this shows that in spite of what the countries that you are living in issues are if other countries believe that it severe enough then they will step in to help one another. The United States is also setting up isolation units and equipment there, i think that this shows how countries are very willing to help.
To conclude i believe that because of your location it does not force your destiny. I think that your destiny can be changed through other people/countries help and the movement of people and ideas.

Will Geography Affect People's Destiny in Africa?

Geography is destiny because the themes of place and movement show that where you live and what your  surroundings are can affect your future.

One out of the five themes that affects your destiny is place. According to the article “Another Ebola Patient Coming to Emory, Atlanta” every time a hospital opened in Western Africa, the hospital would be filled with patients carrying diseases such as Ebola. This means that there might not be that many hospitals located in some cities if the hospitals are overflowing. Because some people may not have a hospital near them, it may affect their future or their destiny. They may get sick and not have anywhere to go for medical care so they risk having a severe illness or even dying.  Depending on what kind of physical features your location has (such as hospitals), may depend on how you live your life from then on forward.

The other theme movement, shows that geography is destiny. Depending on where you live, there might be different kinds of movement going on that could affect your life. According to the article “Obama-International Response for Ebola Outbreak”, African union officials had an emergency meeting that involved discussions about closing borders and suspending flights to the affected areas of Ebola. This means that the officials are spreading their ideas amongst each other, to try to get everyone’s knowledge in how they can stop the Ebola outbreak. Movement could change someone’s lives either in a positive or negative way. The spread or movement of Ebola would be an example of a negative way because if you got this disease, you have a possibility of getting really ill just like the other couple of thousand people that got affected did. But a positive kind of movement would be the spreading of ideas and new knowledge, just like a new vaccine might help you if you were affected by Ebola. If more and more people learn how to prevent Ebola or what medicine there is to cure it, people can become more aware and protect themselves from the Outbreak.

Ebola: Is it Destiny?

The geographic themes of movement and interaction human interaction with the environment prove that geography is not destiny in West Africa because the people who live in this area are receiving help from around the world, and are trying to get treatment for the virus.
The movement theme show that the people who are not affected by the virus can leave the area, and so that they will not be affected by the virus.  The movement theme shows that you are not limited to where you were born, and you can always move.

The interaction with the environment theme prove that geography is not your destiny.  They are interacting with the environment to be able to contain the virus where it is, and those who are helping are wearing special suits so that they do not get the virus.  Therefore, this proves the Interaction with the environment does not determine a person’s destiny.

Ebola. KILLER DISEASE OKAY READ IT. READ IT. OKAY BYE.

The geographic themes of movement and interaction prove that geography is destiny.
Movement. The movement theme of geography shows that geography is destiny because movement helps you see what things around the world are being moved, such as: ideas, goods, etc. The first theme of geography shows that things from all around the world get from place to place by movement, such as ideas, goods, etc. without movement nothing would get anywhere. movement is a big theme in geography. you may think oh its not important, oh its just a word. but its really important. and without it we wouldn't be able to do anything. We all use movement in some way. whether it's calling a friend, delivering something to somewhere, or just in general anything. in the article (No Need for Isolation - Says U.S. Government, by Africa News Service, written by:Emmanuel Weedee-Conway) Its states “The US envoy added that her government will bring a mobile testing center, which will be sent to Lofa County.” That is a type of movement. and without movement they wouldn't be able to bring that mobile testing center.

Interaction. The interaction theme of geography shows that geography is destiny because it helps us know when something in our environment is changing in some way. like if we were to have a new law. that would change our environment. or if someone were to have a sex offender living in their neighborhood that would change their environment. or anything else in general. in the article (Ebola Virus Will Be Contained' - Disease Control Center. by Africa News Service written by: Edwood N. Dennis) i states “comprehensive approach that would lead to the containment of the deadly Ebola viral disease from West Africa.” This means the environment will change in a way. See interaction is an important theme in geography for many reasons. You may not think it is. But it is.

Conclusion. In conclusion, movement and interaction are important themes in geography for many reasons. some being important, some being not as important. but either way they are important themes in geography.

Ebola: Deadly Killer of Africa

www.flickr.com
The geographic themes of region and movement prove that geography is destiny in West Africa because of the history of West Africa, and the people who are worried about Ebola migrating to the United States. I think that geography is destiny in West Africa due to region because of the history of West Africa, in relation to all the diseases and lack of care for those diseases in this region. I also think movement has to do with geography in West Africa being destiny because citizens of the United States are worried about it spreading here, so they support leaving those with Ebola in Africa, which will only cause more people there to catch the disease, which will lead to a larger amount of total deaths in West Africa.

The region theme of geography shows that geography is destiny because of the reputation and history West Africa has. West Africa has a history of just being overlaid with diseases and have caused many people to die from those diseases caught in the region. Diseases most commonly found in West Africa include Ebola, Syphilis, Meningitis, Tetanus, Whooping cough, Measles, and many, many more (http://answersafrica.com/diseases-in-africa.html). Africa News Service says, “CDC has more than 60 staff members already in the region, and is planning to send another 26 disease control experts” (Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield Visit to the Ebola Emergency Center). This quote shows that the U.S. sent in and will keep sending in waves of help because they know how bad the West Africa Area can be.

The theme of movement, in a way, also shows that geography is destiny in West Africa because while trying to find a cure and give medical attention to those suffering from Ebola, we are also trying to keep it in Africa, so people from the U.S. or anywhere else don’t start to catch the disease. In the article, “Ebola is a ‘national security priority,’ Obama says”, a quote said by Barack Obama says, “‘If we don't make that effort now, and this spreads not just through Africa but other parts of the world, there's the prospect then that the virus mutates. It becomes more easily transmittable. And then it could be a serious danger to the United States,’”(Ebola is a ‘national security priority,’ Obama says). This shows that Barack Obama, as well as the majority of United States citizens, do not want Ebola being transmitted to the United States, in fear of innocent Americans dying when there is no known cure for this disease. People from America want to help the people in Africa, but the also do not want an outbreak in the United States, as well.

Ebola:Is it destiny or Is There Another Reason?

The geographical themes Interaction and Movement prove that geography is not destiny in West Africa because we can control how we adapt to the environment this is known as interaction. People can move ideas and things and in these modern times physical obstacles hardly affect how we learn and what we do.

Interaction:

Interaction which is how we adapt and change our environment. This can be controlled for the benefit. For example you can build a house anywhere, if geography was destiny then we would be stuck where ever we were born and have to live with it. In the article “International Response needed for Ebola Outbreak” It says that the international community is assisting with the outbreak by providing money and supplies plus mobile hospitals. This proves that if geography was destiny then someone from Europe could not help someone from West Africa because they would be stuck with their own problems. The world is too advanced for geography to truly be destiny if we were talking about 10,000 B.C. then geography would definitely be destiny but we are talking about the most modern time ever and we are only getting more advanced.

Movement:

Movement is the movement of things, people, and ideas. For example the idea that the Earth was round, not flat went from Columbus to Spain, the Spanish people started telling British people and French people and so on. Movement can also be the movement of people such as migration. In the article “Ebola is a National Security Priority” it says that the disease is moving and that we have to protect our borders because you never know when someone infected comes on a plane to the U.S. and that could be a serious problem. This proves that geography is not destiny because if it was then Ebola would not be a fear. People living in West Africa would be stuck with the virus but because people can move around it can spread to the U.S. or Europe and Asia.

Ebola

Overcoming Your Geography

The geographical themes Interactions of Humans With The Environment and Place  prove that geography is not destiny in West Africa because even though they can’t control certain things like the fact that they were born into the infected Ebola environment, they can still do something about it. For example, they are building hospitals in order to isolate the infected, and they are changing their citizens immune systems by giving them approved drugs to make them healthier.

The interactions of humans with the environment is a huge example of how geography is not destiny. It shows how even though a huge problem that they couldn't control was thrown at them, they didn't just accept that it was Destiny and that it was suppose to happen, they did many things about it. According to the article, ‘Obama Commits Military Assets for the Ebola Health-Care Surge’ found in Africa News Service, the US military are changing the environment by building special hospitals to contain the infected. They are preventing it from reaching the US by bringing equipment and building special isolation units to West Africa. This proves that just because of what is going on in where they live, they are in the process of changing the outcome.

The geographical theme place very well demonstrates how geography does not in fact control your destiny. It proves that even though your culture or where you live is struggling with health issues or the economy, both human and physical characteristics can change the end result. For example, in the article, ‘Obama- International Response Needed for Ebola Outbreak’ found in Africa News Service, Liberia is “at a standstill” in their economy. This makes it even more challenging for the country to provide its citizens with basic health care. Liberia is worried and needs help because of how they are struggling. This makes it harder for them to fight off Ebola or treat the infected by placing them in isolation units because they don’t have those in their country. Even though they don’t have money for vaccines or health care, they are still putting in all their effort to change the outcome. This shows how just because of the physical and human characteristics of where you live are not promising, you decide how whether or not you want to change the outcome and make your environment a better place.

Thesis

The Geography Themes of Place and Location prove that geography is desnity because you cannot control where you were born or what is going on in the world during that time.

  1. Argument

According to The Real Ebola Danger, Ebola sprent to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone Africa. The Text also stated that in these locations  Ebola infected more than 1,600 people and led to 887 deaths. If it was in America It would be much diffrent because we have good hospitals to treat the people so not so many get infected die. This describes Location because it states where it is.

In the passage, Why the U.S. must led the Ebola fight it stated that there wasnt enough clincs, doctors or Hospitals to treat the people. In the U.S. that would never happen because we have so many Doctors, Clinics, and Hospitals to treat the people and If we ever ran out we would be able to ask other nations for help. This describes Place because it says what it is like in a location. All in all, geography is destiny because where you live is diffrent all around the world and that depends on your fate.

The Destiny of West Africa: No Escape from Ebola

Thesis:
The geographic themes of place and movement prove that geography is destiny in West  Africa because of the diseases. These two themes have a large effect on peoples destiny because there is no way to overcome them.

Place: The place theme of geography shows that the characteristics of a place predetermines how a person will live and die. In the New York Times article, “New Thinking About Ebola Treatments”, the author states that this West African area is a particularly poor and underdeveloped area. The author also explains how unsanitary this place is, which leads me to believe that there is no way of escaping diseases like Ebola here. So this helps me conclude that living in an area with these characteristics heavily decide the fate of one’s well being.

http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/
Movement: Another theme of geography, movement, also contributes to an individual’s fate in this place. One negative fate that came out of this article was recorded by an author named James Butty. In his article, “Government Welcomes US Military Roll in Ebola Fight”, he explains that Ebola spreads at tremendously fast rates because of the towns lack of technology and unsanitary nature. These two tie together because the lack of online communication causes all of the movement (trading, sharing ideas, etc.) to happen through physical contact. From the unsanitary conditions of this town, one can assume that diseases (like ebola) spread a lot quicker. So to conclude, the theme of place and movement have a large effect on one’s fate.

Geography is Destiny in Africa?

The geographical themes of interactions of humans and place prove that geography is destiny in Western Africa because of the economic deprivation and the specific place in Africa.

Interactions: The interaction theme of geography shows that  Africa suffers from economic deprivation. According to The Real Ebola Danger by the Washington post, “economic deprivation drives people deeper into the forests to survive, enhancing their risk of exposure, they report. Then, when they get infected, poorly resourced health systems cannot cope with proper equipment and protective gear. The virus spreads from hospitals back into villages and cities. Fear and mistrust often greet relief workers trying to control it. An outbreak is sparked.” This shows that the suffering in Africa due to the poverty and cleanness makes things harder to survive and thrive. Then when someone gets sick it is bad news because of the poorly resourced health systems, like hospitals. These hospitals do not have proper equipment and protective gear. This causes virus’ to spread like wildfires. This causes an outbreak. So to conclude, because of the poorly run hospitals in Africa, the virus spreads. This proves why geography matters.

Ebola outbreak may already be uncontrollable; Monsanto invests in Ebola treatment drug company as pandemic spreads
http://prn.fm/

Place: The theme of place shows that geography is destiny because, the physical characteristics of Africa are not ideal. As is states in The Real Ebola Danger by The Washington Post,The outbreak that began earlier this year has spread in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, with a few cases in Nigeria.” As know, these places have very hot and dry climates all year long. Maybe the Ebola virus thrives under hot climates. Or maybe it grows in the African soil. On the human characteristics side of things the African poverty does help. Western Africa is known to be very unsanitary. This is how virus’ spread. To conclude, this is why geography  is destiny!

Ebola Exterminates African Citizens-John Williams

Ebola Exterminates African Citizens

The geographic themes of region and place prove that geography is destiny in West Africa because there is very little resources that are available to those infected with Ebola. Geography is destiny because the themes of Region and place show that if you are born in West Africa, then there is a good possibility that you will contract Ebola and you may die.

The theme region of geography shows that if you contract Ebola you may die because there is not many resources at the disposal of the West African hospitals, clinics, and isolation units. The only place in the world in which you can contract Ebola is West Africa. According to New Thinking About Ebola Treatment by The New York Times, at this time no approved drugs to treat Ebola exist. Therefore, this proves that being infected by Ebola, which you can only do if you were in one of the five countries that have Ebola infections, is very deadly and is almost destiny to contract if you were born in West Africa.
The theme of geography called place shows that if you live or have visited Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria, Guenia, or Sierre Leone you can catch Ebola. Nowhere else in the world can infect you. If you visited there and were infected, thats your fault, but if you were born there and didn’t have the economic stability or ability to move out of said country, then it was almost destiny for you to catch the disease. In the article Obama Commits ‘Military Assets’ for Ebola Health Care Surge, President Barack Obama states, “Let’s give some public health aid to countries like Liberia so that they can set up hospitals and nurses and vaccinations, et cetera.” This proves that undeveloped countries such as Liberia doesn’t have the resources or money to pay for treatment necessities, and if you were born there and came down with the disastrous disease, you don’t have much of a chance to survive. Its destiny that if you were born in an undeveloped country that you will die because of the current conditions in that country.

Ebola: The deadly virus in Africa and U.S.

The geographic themes of place and interaction of humans with the environment determines your destiny. I believe this because in the three articles that I read and did research with, shows that where you live most likely will affect you.

I believe that the geographic theme of place determines your destiny because place refers to what the characteristics of the area around you, as in the characteristics of the land and others. What the articles said in a basic wrap up was that the place that these people lived in, being West Africa. The human characteristics of  Western Africa is that the people have built small hospitals, and many people use what is there for themselves. The article states that if you live or are visiting Western Africa, you are most likely being exposed to Ebola, whether you realize it or not.

http://gdb.voanews.com/
Another geographic theme of geography that affects a person’s destiny is the interaction of humans with the environment. An article states that what humans have done to the land of Africa, built houses, built hospitals and others, have affected the land. If you live around the areas that Ebola is at, you are more likely to get Ebola because the disease is spreading around you, and there is no treatment for it. This is why I believe that interaction with the humans and the environment determines your destiny.

Does geography decide your fate?

Backround:  Geography is destiny because the themes of  Place and Movement show that in Western Africa there is little hope to survive Ebola when you don’t have proper utilities to take care of yourself and have such a contagious disease to deal with.
http://upload.wikimedia.org

Place:  The theme of place shows that the conditions these people live in and get treated in are unsanitary and do not have proper equipment. The Hospitals in western Africa are not suitable for taking care of patients with Ebola according to James Mason and William Foege in “Why the US must lead fight against Ebola. When the two Americans with Ebola arrived here they were immediately put in isolation units so the disease would not spread, since most of the villages of Western Africa do not have these units the chance of getting Ebola rises drastically. I believe if you get Ebola in Western Africa you do not have a good chance of living because there is no known cure and they don’t have proper utilities to

Movement: The theme of movement shows that the disease has a very high rate of contagion. According to James Mason and William Foege the disease has already become an epidemic in five countries which means that it will infect anybody it can. With what I know about the poor conditions in Western Africa and Ebola’s contagion rate I can confidently say that if you live in Western Africa your chances of success are lowered to almost nothing, but hope is always there for the families of these villages.
