Does geography really affect one's destiny?

Geography does define one’s destiny because of the geography themes of region and movement. People can’t control what region that are born into. And people can’t help it if they do not have access to the movement of ideas and goods such as new vaccines to help cure and prevent diseases such as ebola.

The region theme of geography shows that a person’s fate or even their life can be affected by what region they live in. According to the article, “Obama - International Response Needed for Ebola Outbreak,” ebola has already killed many people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone located in West Africa and is spreading rapidly.

The article, “Why U.S. must lead Ebola fight,” states that because of the region the disease developed in, there are not enough clinics, hospitals, or health care workers to treat the ill. The article explains that many who are ill can’t even afford the coverage of insurance. The region of West Africa is not able to respond in an efficient way to such outbreaks of deadly diseases. For example, those who have come down with ebola in West Africa do not have the same health care as people in America do. So therefore, the region someone is born in can define their destiny.

The theme of movement also shows that one’s access to the movement of ideas can affect one’s destiny. In the article, “New Thinking About Ebola Treatments,” they explain that the United states is trying to come up with ideas for vaccines and possible therapies for the ebola disease.

People in West Africa do not have access to these ideas because of where they live. Only officials have access to the information about vaccines. The common people in West Africa do not have access to this kind of information like the people in the United States do. And because of where the disease had sprung up, the movement of the illness from person to person is much easier than it would be in the United States since West Africa does not have the same method and access to containment as we do. Therefore, the access to the movement of ideas and the ability of a disease to move from person to person due to where a person lives can affect one’s fate.

  1. Kalista, I see what you are saying but I disagree with some of your statement. The fact that you said the movement of the disease isn't that fast is false. And the disease will start moving faster and faster, unless we develop a working vaccine the results will not be good. And the people do not have the resources to slow it down themselves, hence why people are being sent soap and getting make the people much more sanitary.
