SUMMARY: Forty-three student’s families had marched into Mexico City from afar, demanding that they find their missing children. On September 26, a clash at a college between students and municipal police, leaving six dead and people have been blaming them for the disappearance of forty three of them. The parents had marched from Iguala city in the state of Guerrero, where their kids had been taken. Jose Alcaraz, the spokesman for the group who had marched to find their kids, had said that the goal other than to find the children would be to ask the government to take action to guarantee safety and try to rid of violence in Mexico. Soon after they arrived, the parents had been told that their kids had most likely been killed and the bodies were dumped into a local river.
ANALYSIS: I believe that what had supposedly happened to the college students is horrible. Although they do not know for sure, the parents are now believing that their children are dead. I think that maybe because they haven’t found the people after over a month, they suspect that they’re dead.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: Do you think that the police could have prevented this? How?
Do you think that the police should have told the parents that their children were dead without any backup information?

Since the clash was between the police and the students I guess the police could have prevented it by not participating in the clash in the first place. Although, there could have been other police and based on the information provided, it didn't seem like the case was investigated too much. It is harsh to straight up tell families that their child is probably dead, but I could see why they didn't see the situation too hopeful especially if they have been mission for over a month.
ReplyDeleteI think that the police should have told the parents even without any backup information. If the police told the parents that their children were still alive, the parents could have high hopes that there child will be found. But if their child never gets found, it might be more heartbreaking waiting and waiting only to find out your child is dead than to find out sooner.
ReplyDeleteI think the police could have prevented any of this from happening by not participating in the clash. The police could have calmly handled the situation and made sure nobody got hurt. They should have found more information before breaking the depressing news because there still is a chance that the children are alive, even if it's slight.
ReplyDeleteThis is not right. In under any circumstance should an officer have to use violence to the point of death. Violence may be needed, but not in the level of death. This is unreasonable, and officers should face charges.
