Summary:
In the article “U.S. and China hope to slow climate change by big cuts in pollution”, President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to cut down pollution. In doing so, the climate temperature will stop rising and thus leading to less global warming. Obama has created a goal in which the U.S. will use much less oil and coal. This will result in less carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere and becoming a “greenhouse gas.” A greenhouse gas traps heat and too much can make the Earth warmer. President Xi Jinping has also created a goal that China will use alternative energy which doesn’t give off carbon dioxide. In conclusion, this decision could be know as a “turning point,” and save the world from global warming.
Analysis:
I believe this is a brilliant idea that will help stop rising temperatures. It was interesting to learn about what greenhouse gasses are and how we can prevent them. Also I found it intriguing how two countries came together to stop pollution. If actions are carried through, this really could be known as a turning point in history.
Discussion Questions:
Do you think these goals will be carried through? Why?How can we help stop pollution in our everyday lives?
Do you think the next U.S. president will continue this plan? Why?
I agree with your analysis of this article. These courses of actions will definitely result in a positive outcome and it is great to know that two countries can come together and resolve a world wide problem. I do think that these goals will be carried through because the carbon dioxide is such a big cause of global warming. Cutting large supplies of carbon dioxide out of our lives will definitely make a significant impact on the world. And since this is such a big issue that many people care about, I think that the presidents will definitely follow through with this plan.
ReplyDeleteI think it's really smart to create a plan that will reduce pollution and reduce global warming. The plan sounds like it will work out well and then maybe something Obama was a part of will actually be successful. I think these goals will be carried out, and they will be successful so hopefully we can live in a cleaner, healthier environment. I think we can stop pollution by pitching in with simple things such as recycling and reducing use of gas. I think the next president in office will carry on the plan, but only if it is successful.
ReplyDeleteI think the next president will continue this plan because it helps change the world. The plan was a great idea because it is fixing a world wide problems that affects us all. We can stop pollution in our everyday lives by being cautious of where we put our garbage or if someone is letting toxic things into water or air. We can all be paying attention to our surroundings and pick up stray trash on the street or dispose of harmful toxic things into proper places. The world could change for the better if we all try to help. These goals of helping with decreasing pollution will definitely be carried through.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a really good idea for our whole world. Using less oil will not only decrease global warming but also help lower pollution in the world.I hope that future leaders carry out this plan as well because this is an overall good thing for the environment that will help future habits of using less coal and oil. Whether the next president is a democrat or a republican, either way it is for the good of the country. Using cars as much as we do in America is a major cause of pollution, so if we cut back on driving or get more environment friendly cars that would help too. We have been trying to better the environment for a long time and it is hard but I think these plans could be carried through if we focus on it more than we do.
ReplyDeleteI think that the goal of using less oil and coal to stop pollution will be carried through because if Obama really sets his mind to stopping pollution, he can really make a difference. If he starts losing interest in his new plan, he has another country to help support and push Obama into finishing what he started. This plan is a great idea and will have many impacts.
