Obama's New Challenge with All Republican Congress

SUMMARY: In the article, Obama’s Last Two Years in Office will be Challenging, written by McClatchy News Service on November 5, 2014, experts are saying that even though Obama ( a Democrat) wants to finish his last 2 years of presidency strong, it’s going to be tougher than he thought.  He is going to be in for a treat considering both the Senate and House are now Republicans. Obama is willing to compromise and so is the House and Senate. But each side knows that they aren’t just going to wake up one day and change their views on the U.S’s problems. Even though it’s going to be challenging, Obama is going to need to find a way to cope and work on approving or making new laws with the Senate and the House of Representatives.

ANALYSIS: I think Obama and Congress should be able to compromise. In this kind of profession, they should be responsible enough to be able to hear other’s ideas and share their opinions. Just because they have different views doesn’t mean you should shut down. If you shut down, then you will never be able to get a solution to your conflict. Congress and Obama should be able to work it out and pass new laws. It’s about solving problems in the U.S not debating who’s party is better or worse.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
  1. Do you think Obama will be able to work with the Senate and House now as Republicans? Why or why not?
  2. What kind of challenges do you think Obama and the Congress might face?
  3. Do you think Obama will come out “strong” in 2 years?

  1. I agree that Obama and Congress will be able to compromise on ideas. They are mature enough to figure out the best possible solution to any problem at hand. I think they might face challenges concerning on agreement towards which laws are being made. Although there is going to be many disagreements and arguments, I believe Obama will come out strong.

  2. As president, I think Obama should be able to deal with this situation and make compromises, putting their differences behind. Because of this challenge it might be tough on Obama to fully finish the way he would like to. I think that Obama might not get everything he wants but he is still the President and I believe everything will work it self out because they both want what is good for the country and should be willing to compromise for the good of the country.

  3. I think that although Obama is a Democrat, that the Senate and the House should be able to come to still work with each other. I believe this would be best for them, because if they did not start to work together, the government would start to fall apart. A struggle that they might face would each other disagreeing on things, in a political point of view. I think, that depending on if Obama starts to come to a compromise with the Senate and House, that he will come out "strong", but if they disagree on almost everything, it will fail.
