Random Suicide Bombing Kills 45, But Why?

SUMMARY:
On Sunday November 23, 2014 a suicide bomber in Kabul, Afghanistan killed 45 people at a local volleyball game. The attack is believed to be derived from Afghanistan’s agreement with the U.S. and NATO that would allow military forces to remain in the country. This is the largest suicide bombing in Afghanistan since 2010 when a suicide bomber killed 30 people and injure 52 at another volleyball game.

ANALYSIS:
The people of Afghanistan need to find a better way to express their feelings. A terrorist has no right to killed one innocent person let alone 45. But what really puzzles me is that why would an Afghan terrorist murder his own people why not attack westerners? I am also not sure what type of message they are trying to send to the west because this guy blew up his own people at a random volleyball game. I truly feel terrible for the victims of this merciless and random terrorist attack.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
What do you think were the bomber’s motives?
Why would he kill his own people?
Why do you think it was at a random volleyball game?

  1. I do not believe that the bomber had true motives for killing these people, he probably had some sort of personal issue that bothered him to the point where he was ready to kill others. I believe he brought the bomb to a place close to him where he knew he could kill a lot of people.

  2. I think the reason for the bomber to attack the random volleyball game is to show that the terrorists can attack anybody at anytime and you always have to be on the lookout for attacks even when you least expect it.

  3. The bomber's motives may have been to express something, but he shouldn't have bombed a volleyball game, or anything for that matter. If he had been trying to express something, he should have done otherwise, not bomb anyone or anything. He killed his own people because he might have been trying to get people's attention, from around the world, by killing his own people. It may have been at a random volleyball game because he knew that nobody would suspect it coming, and many people would hear about it and would be thinking about why he had done it, because he must have had a reason, although nobody would know now. The people of the volleyball game had nothing to do with the bombing, they just were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

  4. I think that the terrorist chose to bomb the sporting event purly for the large gathering of people. I'm sure that they don't have anything against the sport. When many people come together they become an easy target for terrorist because they can hide in the crowd

  5. I think that the bomber is trying to show that the military forces are not helping Afghanistan the are actually harming them. Also often times terrorists have their own reason that can't really be explained. I believe he used a volleyball game because a lot of people being in one space would make it easier to terminate more target.

  6. I think that the bomber was desperate and doesn't want to see his country with foreigners all over the place. I think he was just misguided and he should not be adding to the problem of bombings that increase military presence.

  7. I think he killed people at a random vollyball game because that was the easiest place. He wanted to kill innocent people. Also, Volleyball games are easy to bomb i guess, because it is a public place and they don't check you to make sure you have a bomb. Volleyball games are an example of what I thought you would be safe at. They wanted to bomb somewhere that no one would expect it would be.

  8. I agree these protesters need a better way of expressing their feelings. Preferably non-violently. I think if we better learnt the motives of this bombing we may better understand the reasoning. Therefore, we, as Americans, can solve the problems these bombers are protesting for. If we can solve these problems we can eliminate bombing protest in Africa. To conclude, killing innocent people in the process of a protest is not the way to handle your feeling, no matter how strong your feeling are. Use your words. Violence is never the answer.

  9. The bomber probably wanted to send a message saying that he has power and is willing to kill his own people to prove it. I think the bomber blew up a volleyball game was to show that he will bomb any place to show that he has power.

  10. I think that the motives for killing people at a random volleyball is to make everyone scared and fear the terrorist, and make them more powerful. I think the bomber did not care about killing his own people. I think that it was at a random volleyball game because it was an easy target for him to bomb, and kill as many people as he could.
