Encouraging Young Black Men to become Teachers.
SUMMARY:
In the article, “Encouraging young black men to become teachers”, four colleges in Pennsylvania are working together to try and encourage many male black students to want to become teachers. They feel that the black students need black male role models they can look up to since there are very few black male teachers out there now a days. Also those four colleges feel that less black students want to go onto college or listen in class because they would rather have their own color teaching them.

ANALYSIS:
I agree that there do need to be more african male teachers out there to encourage even more people to be teachers. There is not a lot of black male teachers out there but, I don’t think it needs to be that big of a deal. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter what color our teachers are! If people will only pay attention to their teacher in class if they black, then that is kind of racist. It shouldn’t matter who teaches our students in the US. Yes, I agree that there should be more, but it doesn’t need to turn into a big deal.

I feel like the only reason why people think that we need more black people is because schools don't want to seem racist. If there aren't enough black teachers then they probably don't want to be teachers. So I think it is good to have more diversity but I don't think not having enough blacks is a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteI might change and agree with Nick here. Just because there isn't enough black male teachers, doesn't mean that's a bad thing. That's like saying there isn't enough European female teachers.

ReplyDeleteI think that there should be more African American teachers in the United States. I agree that African American students should have someone of their own race to look up to. This is because although segregation has ended, there is still racism present in the United States. So therefore, to give African American students who are struggling with racism some guidance and encouragement, more African American teachers should exist.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there should deinetly be more black male teachers. Racism is popular recenly and people need to realize there are no bad differences betweens whites and blacks. Both races are good teachers and there should be more of each.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there could be more black teachers out there, but it shouldn't really matter to people what race your teacher is, your there to learn. I think we need more diversity, but I don't think the race of teachers should really effect what classes we go to and participate in.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you are saying when you said it shouldn't matter what race your teacher is. Although, I could see that children growing up in such a racist generation may feel that they need someone of their same race to be teaching them. Also, if a certain race is in minority at a school, it may make them more interested in school if they had someone of their same race as a teacher to act as a role model.

I agree that there should be more black male teachers because in my experience i have never had a black male teacher. I think that because there are not that many black teachers many black student aren't very inspired to become teacher. Although i think that this is important to have teachers inspiring kids i think that in this generation people don't really care about their teacher's race. i think this might have been a bigger issue a couple years ago but now i think people don't care. I think that if someone wants to be a teacher it shouldn't be because of how many teachers they had who was the same color as them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the U.S should hire more African teachers, but I would have to agree with Mia because the students shouldn't be paying attention to the teacher's race, they should be focused on getting a good education. Although having black teachers might make a role model for African students, I don't get an impact to become a teacher just because I have white teachers. I don't see their reasoning behind that fact.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the US needs more black teachers for black students. "Racism" does not pop into my mind because no one is being mean or separating anyone, so it is not racist.
ReplyDeleteClasses have to be more diverse, if they do not it will become a stereotype that teachers are white.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there should be more teachers, but I believe race should not restrict you from being a teacher. If a black teacher is more qualified then a white teacher, the black teacher should get hired and vice versa.
