SUMMARY: In the article “Student protests in Colorado gathering steam” Brennan Lindsley explains how several students in AP history classes from the Jefferson County school district protested because school officials decided to take out some mistakes made by the USA from their textbooks, for example students argued that they should learn of the US mistakes so the can learn from them.
ANALYSIS: I agree with the students of Jefferson County because they have the right to stick up for themselves and protect their education, you cannot pretend like the United States is a perfect nation because we are actually far from perfect. This article reminded me of the American revolution in the sense that a young group (The Americans and the students from Jefferson County) stood up against a more powerful group (Britain and the school Officials) for what they believed was right. I feel that pretending like we are so perfect is what angers so many countries and is why they don’t like us.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Do you agree that the students from Jefferson County have the right to protest even at their age?
What do you think the school officials should do, modify the school books or let history be told?
What is the best way to get a point across to the teachers here at hinsdale central?

I think the students had the right to protest no matter what age. if they were protesting for a good reason then they should have the right to even if there are consequences. i dont know what else to type._. he said it had to be long okay bye c:
ReplyDeleteI think striking is a little much for the students to take part in. I think they should have tried to talk to the school board and see if they can have the old textbooks back because by striking they are hurting their grades and their learning ability.
ReplyDeleteI think that the schools should put the truth into all their textbooks because it is very important for students to know what exactly happened throughout the course of history. Plus, if the school elects to put the truth into their books then the students will stop protesting and striking which would be great for the school. To me, all signs point to having to tell the absolute truth.
ReplyDeleteNo i dont agree becuase they dont understand what adults do.
ReplyDeleteLet histoty be told becuase its the truth.
Think about the students!
I agree with this, America was founed on "sticking it to the man" in a sense. Those students came into that class with an expectation for what they will be learning and when they were robbed of that educational opportunity. So I feel that in no way was this protest wrong, for the students were standing up for what they deserve
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Jefferson County students have the right to protest because they are citizens. They were , born with the right of freedom of speech and I believe that if they aren't harming anyone, then they are okay. This peaceful protest is showing that they care about their country, but want to know the truth as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel the students have a right to protest, but shouldn't because I don't think anyone cares about how history is taught. At Hinsdale Central I think the only way to get a point across would be to strike because the students have no say
ReplyDeleteI agree with the students of Jefferson County because they have the right to stick up for themselves and protect their education.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion every has the right protest if they want to. Also kids are right about learning everything in history. They should cover the good and bad parts about USA.
