In Ferguson, Missouri, a police officer shot an unarmed teenager, Michael Brown. Citizens then started to protest the shooting and how the police were armed. There is a government program that gives military weapons to the police, including some school police. Some schools gained access to weapons that only soldiers use, like an M-16’s and 14’s. Roger Stearns is Kennesaw State University’s police chief, he said that they need weapons to protect the students, and that the “bad guys” were always better armed than the police. The school police are trained with 30 hours of rifle training.

I would say that schools do need weapons to protect themselves from shootings. The school police are trained for 30 hours, so I do not see much harm happening to the students and members of the school. The police’s weapons should not be taken because they can help protect others.

I agree with this, saying that the schools should have armed security guards at the school, as long as they have the proper amount of training.

ReplyDeleteI think that no guns are necessary in a school environment. I acknowledge the argument for protection of the students, but as we can see by this event, these armed police are causing unnecessary violence rather than preventing it.

ReplyDeleteNice post, I think they should give the officers more training on when to use a lethal weapon so another incident like this dose not happen. The officer should of used a stun weapon like a tazer or pepper spray if the criminal does not conceal a weapon.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the writing, but the officers may not be trusted with what just recently happened. The officer that shoot Michael Brown had no reason to do it and was just a racist. I think that police would protect the school, but might put it in more danger as well.
