Suburban Denver High Schools Enrage Student with New Lesson Plans

Current Event #1

In this article, students of several suburban Denver high schools walked out of class to protest the change in history teaching. The idea was proposed by member of the board of directors for these schools and has caused outrages among the students. Students say that the new teaching is taking away from the pride and patriotism of the school. However, the teachers believe that it puts a better view of both sides in US history. The executives plan on listening to what the students have to say, hoping that this will end soon.

In my point of view, I believe that the students are correct. They should be taught to have pride in their country, not shame for it. Also, their peaceful protest is a very mature way for them to be going about this, so they have done nothing wrong. All their doing us standing up for what they believe in.

What is the best way for the teachers to control the protests?
How will this affect students grades for missing school to protest?
What can the students and teachers compromise on?

  1. I think that the students and the teachers should change the curriculum for their education because it is the students who are learning so they should have a choice in what they learn

  3. I agree that this is a very mature way to deal with this problem, and I think this will greatly affect the students' grades because they are missing the lessons that could be taught.
