Where did they come from?

Where did Koalas come from? Were koalas the same as when they were first discovered? How have they changed over time? The article History of Koalas, written by the Australia Kola Foundation, a non-profit organization, answered all my questions about what the trus history of koalas is. This source is reliable because the website was created by a Koala foundation trying to help the species from becoming even more endangered.

Over time, you wonder how have things developed and changed. Humans, animals, plants, etc. all change over time in order to survive. Humans have evolved from what seems to be monkeys. How have animals like the koala  changed though? In the last blog post, we found out that what they eat affects where they live and what their digestive systems are like. Koalas also have different bodies in order to live the “arboreal animal” life. In this blog post we learn that koalas also have thick wool fur that keeps them warm in the winter and cold in warm weather, but also helps repel water in the rain. We will also look more into how koalas have evolved over time. 25 million years ago, the first koalas were discovered.

The name “Koala” is thought to mean “no drink:, because as we learned koalas need very little water, and koalas were also given the scientific name, phascolarctos cinereus, which means “ash grey pouched bear”. As history went on, we found out that the koala is not a bear at all.  By 1924, koalas in South Australia were extinct because of the fur trade and the clearing of forests. I never knew how koalas came to be, so getting the chance to research what I didn't know was very cool. Koala's may live in the trees, unlike many other animals, but came to be just like we did. In my next blog post, I want to finish it by researching how koalas and other arboreal animals are doing in today's age. Are there more of them then there used to be? Less?
