The End of the World is Coming....

Should we be panicking as we now have learned the apocalypse is inevitable?

The United Church of God, a fundamentalist Christian Church, has written the article The End of the World: What does the Bible say? Below are some questions they have have answered.

Q: If the world is to end, (humans become instinct), what are the potential ways the apocalypse could happen?

A: A wide variety of people with different professions, including politicians, educators, scientist, and religious people, believe the world has a chance to end any day now. It could nuclear warfare, environmental disaster,  planetary pollution, overpopulation, killer diseases, or collision with a comet or asteroid. These are the top possibilities to the end of the world. What frightens me is that, most of these catastrophes can strike and wipe out the entire population in seconds. Just one comet strike, one nuke, one natural disaster, one epidemic that we can’t fight. According to the article, a collision between earth and a killer asteroid is inevitable. To conclude, nuclear warfare is the biggest threat. This is because it is the most likely. All of these possibilities are equal when comparing deadliness, but the possibility of the event happening is what separates them.

Q:  Referring to the bible, what are signs of the end of time?

A: In the bible, jesus was asked to give the first signs of the end of the world. Jesus responded by stating that the first signs would include massive religious deception. So what this means is that his teachings would no longer be followed. He also spoke of famines and natural disasters including massive earthquakes. In addition, he spoke of a deadly epidemic. Lastly he spoke of major conflicts and wars between different ethnic groups.  To conclude, people have made a false sense of security for themselves to end the frightened faces.

Q: Can we be sure the end will occur? What can we do to prepare for the end?

A: In God’s words, it’s not a question if the world will end, it’s a question of when. We need to focus on preparation not timing. Jesus said that it would be impossible for men to calculate the end ahead of time. According to the article we, as humans, need to be ready. Referring to the article, there are 2 worlds. We are living in the state of expectancy, but instead, we should be living in the present world.  In other words, this means we need to live life now and quit worrying about the unclear future so much. Although, we are always told to worry about our planets future, health wise meaning global warming etc., the bible says to remain calm.

Further Research: What are other religions, like Judaism or Buddhism, views on the end of the world? Also do any religions believe in "zombies".
